Are YOU Prepared to pass the time with some FUN?...

FHCACA is doing their part to keep everyone abreast of the situations we are all facing.

In the wake of the COVID-19, Nursing homes are faced with isolation from the communities and to room bound activities.  If you have any suggestions that you can share please leave your comments, your thoughts and your ideas of what you are doing that might be helpful to your peers in this time of need. (click here)

Feel free to give me any other suggestions by emailing me at MaryDSpikes@aol.com

We just did HALLWAY BINGO......all of the residents stayed in their rooms. We printed bingo sheets for each person to keep. We always have individual bingo chips for each person. Caller was in one part of the hallway 2nd person further down. Played 3 games then moved to a different wing. Worked like a gem.

We are also doing Hallway Bingo, outside, 1 on 1 with the color street nails not nail polish.

We provided nail care 1-1 in our day room. We were able to get pts/residents out of their rooms for 10-15 minutes.
We are also taking our pts/residents outdoors and keeping them 6 feet apart.

We are utilizing FaceTime, Viber, Skype and other similar Apps to the fullest and are facilitating around 20 virtual visits between residents and family members a day... Its definitely a bright spot in the day of both resident and their families out there...

I am going to do hallway karaoke. I will sing requests from a list I gave residents. Plug in machine in each hallway and residents can come to their doorways to watch. Staff will probably throw stuff at me to shut me up.

We did church today and printed out our Chaplains sermon. We read it and sang and prayed and left a beautiful comforting verse with black and white decorative border for them to color.

We went outside on the patio, on this beautiful windy day. We listened to music, exercised, and played a spring time trivia game.

We made independent activity packets with word searches, trivia, coloring and jokes . Activities staff runs these packets (different ones daily) and passes them out every morning with color crayons and pencils . We have implemented a set appointment time for each family to be able to face time their loved one, nail care and garden times staying at least 6ft apart in small groups 6 people or less.

Hello My fellow activity Coordinators I thought is might be a nice campaign If we could get our residents on sewing machines where appropriate and have them make mask for our community or even
your nurses in our facilities.. I know may of our assistant living centers have sewing classes and craft rooms with sewing machines. As you may know, hospitals and health care facilities across the country are running dangerously low on essential supplies, including masks and scrubs. They are reaching out to us daily with increasing urgency. The CDC has declared that in a time of crisis as we are in now, handmade masks are acceptable and can provide healthcare workers with an additional layer of protection, saving their low supply surgical grade mask inventory. They are also utilizing these masks with those in the hospitals to help slow the spread to other healthcare professionals. Let me know your thoughts on this. Thanks you

Hi! At Creating with Clay, we are normally out at facilities providing classes to create beautiful projects using air-dry clay. During this time of quarantine, we are offering pottery kits that can be shipped to your facility - they include all the supplies and instructions needed to create a unique project for up to 12 people. These projects can be done individually or in a small group. We welcome the opportunity to ship these kits to any of your activity coordinators to give them one more fun activity for their residents! I can be reached at 862-216-0304 or this email. Thank you!!!!

Just sending everyone love and hugs. Miss seeing everyone at the yearly conference. Lets all hope and pray that next year we will have a huge conference and enjoy each others company once again!!!! Know that all of us are in this together and remember we have each other as members of this organization to lean on each other any time we need it. And with whats going on with the world and with our departments, we need each other a lot at this time!!!!!
